Longhorns keep Jeff Madden, add Bennie Wylie for football
By CHUCK CARLTON / The Dallas Morning News
Like Mark Twain, the reports of the demise of Jeff “Mad Dog” Madden have been greatly exaggerated.
Madden, the Texas assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning, will remain in his current position, coach Mack Brown confirmed today at a press conference. Several reports had Madden being removed from his current job.
Tennessee’s Bennie Wylie, with a background that includes the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech, will be the new strength and conditioning coach for football. In a bit of irony given the reports, Madden introduced Wylie today.
Madden will continue in his duties overseeing strength training for all sports. Wylie will work solely in the football program
“It’s an honor to be home,” said Wylie, a native of Mexia. He called Madden a friend and mentor for the last decade.
