Connor Wood leading Longhorns QB pack?

Given Mack Brown‘s edict that bars fans and members of the media from viewing Texas’ spring practice this year, it’s nearly impossible to get any real read on how the Longhorns’ positional battles are playing out, especially at the all-important quarterback position.
Unless, of course, you’re Kirk Bohls and have a source or sources willing to spill a nugget or two.
According to the Austin American Statesman columnist, he’s hearing “whispers that redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Wood is leading the battle at his position“. With last year’s starter Garrett Gilbert holding a significant edge in experience, it was thought — or maybe even assumed — that he would hold a “lead” early on in the process.
Based on what Bohls is hearing, though, that doesn’t appear to be the case in a competition that will also include sophomore Case McCoy and true freshman David Ash.
It should be noted, however, that a decision is not imminent as Bohls adds that an announcement on a starter will not come until August. That falls in line with Bryan Harsin‘s public statements from last week in which the offensive coordinator hinted that the team is willing to wait until a week before the regular season opener before declaring a winner.
