With all the “boo-bird” fans screaming for the head of Garrett Gilbert and failure of the 2011 season (going 5-7), things had to change . These Orangebloods received their wish this weekend. Gilbert was benched after struggling again with two interceptions with only eight attempts, during the second quarter of the University of Texas vs. BYU game. He was replaced by not only one quarterback, but two.
Mack Brown and Bryan Harsin used a combination of Case McCoy , brother of Colt McCoy, and David Ash. They combined with 9-of-11 for 92 passing yards and no interceptions. All 17 points in the 17-16 Texas victory, were scored with McCoy and Ash in the lineup. With this change, it looks like Garrett Gilbert has gone from the 1st string QB to 3rd string QB in less than two quarters. It is believed that McCoy would start next week against UCLA with Ash coming in at times.
