I am referring to the stupid statements made by Mack Brown about the Longhorn Network. Mack Brown could be incredibly rich, once the season is over if University of Texas decides to pay him off on his huge $5M+ contract through 2020 and tells him to ride off into the sunset. It very well could happen … After contemplating it for some time, I am for it.
By the way, could those “statements” have been a ploy to get paid out at season’s end? Interesting?
I love the Longhorn Network, even though I cannot see it on Time Warner and I spend about $160+ per month for their cable. The recruiting advantage is incredible and the money is fantastic. I consider this a win/win situation. This network must be used to their advantage and if it is not, it is Mack’s fault … enough said. Everything comes down to the man in charge … especially making $5+ Million per year. Mack is fighting for his life as the Texas Longhorn coach and seems he is extremely frustrated, as he should be. The defense is a disgrace. It is ranked around #100+ in the nation out of around 120+ teams in so many categories. Pathetic, considering they were projected a Top 5 this season, right behind Alabama and LSU. OUCH! By the end of the season, they could easily lose another 3 games and end up with a 7-5 record (not including a bowl game), which is absolutely horrendous considering the talent here. The only game which is a “sure thing” is Kansas. Iowa State, Texas Tech (#14) and Kansas State (#3) and TCU will be extremely tough!!!!!! Can they win one of those three, not sure. In the last 4 games, Texas has give up 31,36,63, and 50, not to mention giving up two straight 600+ total yard games by our defense.
It was the offense that was supposed to suffer this year and the defense was supposed to be a Top 5. Boy, were the experts wrong. If it was not for David Ash having an incredible year (nobody saw that coming), UT could already have 4 losses … heading for 3-9 record.
Mack’s style as CEO of UT will not work anymore with any team in the Top 10. In this day and age, a father/grandfather figure (it’s nice) will not get it done. If it was not for Vince Young and Colt McCoy, Mack could have been fired 5 to 8 years ago. I believe if Nick Saban (AL) or Urban Meyer (OH ST) or Pete Carroll (SEA NFL) or Chris Peterson (Boise State) or Les Miles (LSU) or Bill Snyder (Kansas St) or Chip Kelly (ORE) or Steve Spurrier (SC) had the reins at University of Texas, they would have multiple BCS Championship Trophies with the talent signed in the 5-6 years. To think Texas has gone about 7-19 in their last 26 games in the Big 12 is so pathetic, even thought they have averaged a Top 5 recruiting class in each of the last 6 years. Most people just do not realize how great of a leader that both Vince Young and Colt McCoy were. Thank goodness they wore Burnt Orange.
Yes, I am not a happy camper, since Mack makes $5+ million per year and signed until 2020 … O U C H !!!!!!!
If and when Mack is gone … you will see top names, including many mentioned above wanting Mack’s job here in Austin. It is one of the top 3 (perhaps #1) NCAA head coaching jobs in the country.
Sorry for the Rant!!!! Hook ‘em Horns!!!
